Hamden Middle School offers students a variety of options to get involved in our school community. Our clubs and intramurals meet throughout the school year. Please see our school calendar for specific meeting dates.

Sports

    Registration Process: Students must have an updated Physical Form and complete both Parent & Student Forms in Final Forms.

    Notes: Students athletes need cleats and shinguards. Soccer ball encouraged.

    Meeting Place: Gym

    Registration Process: Students must have an updated Physical Form and complete both Parent & Student Forms in Final Forms. Students must also be academically eligible to play, and not have more than 2 Fs. Last day to register is November 14th! 

    Notes: Student athletes need to come to practice prepared and have a ride arrive promptly at 5PM on practice days and immediately following games on game days. Pickup in front of the school.

    Notes: Student athletes need to come to practice prepared and have a ride arrive promptly at 5PM on practice days and immediately following games on game days.  A schedule will be sent home and posted for all student athletes. Pickup in front of the school.

Intramurals

    Registration Process: Sign-Up in Google Classroom. Students must have a signed Athletic Permission to Participate Form signed by a parent/guardian.

    Description: Cross Country running is a sport where individuals run outdoors. Students will focus on conditioning, agility, and long distance running while also building lasting friendships. Students should be dressed to run outside, and should bring a water bottle and wear sneakers. All runners must ask their parent sign an Athletic Permission to Participate form.  

    This is an 8-session activity. Program is capped at 24 students.

    Registration Process: Sign-Up in Google Classroom. Students must have a signed Athletic Permission to Participate Form signed by a parent/guardian.

    Description: Flag Football is the perfect opportunity to compete, have fun, and learn the fundamentals of the game. Students of all skill levels are welcome to join this friendly competition in a supportive and fun environment.  Students should bring sneakers and a water bottle.  A change of clothes is optional.

    This is an 8-session activity. Program is capped at 24 students.

    Description: Students who are interested in skiing and snowboarding are invited to participate. Students will have the opportunity to travel to Mount Southington to either learn to ski/snowboard or to show off their skills.

    Description: Spring Intramurals include Strength and Conditioning for various sports, along with skills specific to track and field.

    Description: This year's focus will be "Serving Others." While there will be days we might make something or learn something new, we will also make items to serve our peers, staff, and even community. We will collaborate as a group to plan and execute products to serve others!

    Description: Have you always wanted to perform on stage? Do you enjoy performing in front of an audience? Prefer to be behind the scenes? This is the perfect time to try out al things theater. We will be working on monologues, playing theater games, and working on musical theater pieces in preparation for our spring musical. Students will work with a script-- scene work, character development, memorization-- all culminating in a performance at our showcase. Everyone who wants a part will receive a part! Prefer tech theater? Come join us!

    Description: Open to any student who plays an instrument in the HMS band or orchestra. No auditions are required, but students must be able to attend each rehearsal. Students are required to practice extra and be available for 1-2 concerts each year (dates TBD).

    Students must get their own ride home: there are no late buses on Mondays.

    Description: Do you enjoy puzzles, games, and challenges? Do you find math easy? Do you want to have fun while learning new types of math outside of your regular math class? Not a "problem"! The HMS math club is for you! The math club meets twice a month for activities and competitions.

    Description: Ready to move and groove? Join the Merengue and Bachata Club to learn the steps to these energetic and popular dances. Not only will you discover the history behind these awesome dance styles, but you'll also get to sample some delicious food. Space is limited to 15 students, so sign up soon to be part of this fun and exciting cultural experience!

    Description: Mock Trial is for students interested in a future career in law. Students will have an opportunity to review cases based on actual events.  They will take on the role of attorney, witness, victim or defendant and prepare how they will present their case. Students will compete against one another in two simulations throughout the year. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in various field trips connected to the criminal justice system throughout the year including a visit to New Haven Superior Court.

    Description: The National Junior Honor Society is open to 7th and 8th grade students who receive high honors during the first two marking periods of the school year and meet the require standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship. After the second marking period, sponsors will review students’ grades and if they are eligible, the student will be invited to fill out an application and participate in the interview process. We will meet to plan and implement various community service projects in the school and community.

    Description: The Student Council is an organization that will develop leadership skills within our students. The Council will work together to support a positive school climate. Under Ms. Fiorillo's direction, students will implement activities to support our work with No Place for Hate, Say Something, and Start with Hello. They will help make decisions about student life at HMS, and their voices will be heard!

    Description: The Technology Club encourages students to explore their interests while developing fundamental understanding of how technology can be use to solve challenges. Students will develop skills in problem-solving, leadership, and critical thinking by using technoology such as robotics and drones to solve challenges and participate in competitions with other club members.

    Description: The Yearbook Club is a creative and collaborative group where students work together to capture the spirit of the school year. Members take photos at events, design pages, and write captions and features that highlight the people and moments that make our school unique. From choosing themes and layouts to editing and finalizing pages, students gain hands-on experience with photography, writing, and design. The club is a fun way to build teamwork, showcase creativity, adn create a lasting keepsake that the entire school will treasure for years to come. Come join us!

    Description: The YES Club is for students who have an interest in pursuing a career in the education field or a field that works with young children. In this club, we will learn what it takes to be in these professions. We will be mentors to younger students AND we will meet, write and connect with students at Quinnipiac University who are future educators.
